Happy Nanny provides English-speaking babysitters and nannies in Stockholm from 165 SEK per hour after the Swedish RUT tax deduction. You get the same nanny every time, you meet her at home before you decide, and the first visit is free.
Finding a babysitter in a new city is hard. Finding one who speaks your language, shows up every Tuesday and knows which preschool to collect from is harder. Happy Nanny is a small Stockholm company run by its founder, Aleksandra Stoyanova, and we have grown almost entirely through families recommending us to other families. This page explains how we work, in English.
What you get
- The same nanny every time. For regular bookings we do not rotate staff. Your children know who is coming.
- Swedish, English, Bulgarian, Spanish or Arabic. You choose which language the nanny speaks with the children.
- Employed, checked and insured. Our nannies are employed by Happy Nanny. Before a first booking each one has had a two step interview with Aleksandra, a current extract from the Swedish criminal records register, paediatric CPR (certificate or a refresher) and two or three references from real employers. They are covered by our liability insurance with Trygg-Hansa while working.
- A free first meeting with your nanny. Your nanny comes to your home for a free first meeting of about 30 minutes, meets the children, and nothing is booked until you say yes.
- One hourly rate. from 165 SEK after RUT. Preschool pick-up is included.

How it works
- Get in touch. Use the booking form (in Swedish, but short) or call +46 73 720 44 32. Tell us about your children, the days and hours you need, where you live and which language you prefer.
- Aleksandra calls you. She asks a few questions about your children, your hours and languages, and suggests a nanny who fits. It is free, and you commit to nothing.
- The first meeting. Your nanny comes to your home for about 30 minutes, meets your children and answers every question you have.
- You decide. If it feels right, we book the first session. If not, we suggest someone else.
- The first session. Aleksandra follows up afterwards. From then on, it is the same nanny, week after week.
Common situations
- Both parents working late. Pick-up from preschool or school two or three afternoons a week, playground on the way home, a snack, and someone there until you get back.
- New to Stockholm. A nanny who speaks English with the children while they settle in, and Swedish if you want them to pick it up.
- Evenings and weekends. A night out, a work event, a wedding. The same nanny if she is available, otherwise one the children have met.
- Hotels and visits. Babysitting at your hotel while you are in Stockholm. Ask us in advance.
Where we work
All of greater Stockholm. Most of our families live in Järfälla, Sollentuna, Solna, Bromma, Täby, Danderyd and the inner city. The full list of areas is in Swedish, but the names are the same.
About the Swedish words
You will see barnvakt (babysitter), barnflicka (nanny, literally child-girl) and barnpassning (childcare) on Swedish sites. They are used interchangeably. What matters is whether you get the same person every time, and whether the company employs her or just passes on a phone number. We employ.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a babysitter cost in Stockholm?
With Happy Nanny, from 165 SEK per hour after the Swedish RUT tax deduction, which we apply directly on the invoice. The price is per nanny and hour, not per child, and there are no sign-up or monthly fees.
Do your nannies speak English?
Yes. Our nannies speak Swedish, English, Bulgarian, Spanish and Arabic, and you choose which language she speaks with your children. Many of our families speak English at home.

That is the whole idea. For regular bookings you get one nanny who comes the same days every week. We do not rotate staff.
Can non-Swedish citizens use the RUT deduction?
The deduction is tied to being taxed in Sweden, not to citizenship. If you pay income tax here and the invoice is paid electronically, it normally applies. We handle the paperwork with the Swedish Tax Agency.
