With us you get the same nanny every time: one person who gets to know your child, not someone new every week. Here are the questions families ask most often. If you cannot find the answer, just call 073-720 44 32. Aleksandra answers herself.
The nanny and the relationship
Do we get the same nanny every time?
Yes. You are matched with one nanny and you keep her. Your child should recognise the person who comes, and you should not have to explain the routines all over again each time. That is the difference from an agency where someone new turns up every week: with us, the nanny becomes a fixed part of your child’s everyday life.
Do your nannies speak other languages?
Our nannies speak Swedish and English, and we also have Bulgarian, Spanish and Arabic. Tell us which language you want your child to hear at home and we match accordingly. Because you get the same nanny every time, the language stays consistent instead of changing from one session to the next.
Can the nanny speak another language with my child?
Yes, and many families choose us for exactly that. If you want your child to keep up their mother tongue, or to hear English a few afternoons a week, we match you with a nanny who speaks that language. Language development needs repetition over time, which only works with the same person.
Why does having the same nanny matter?
Because security is built on familiarity. A child who knows who is collecting them from preschool relaxes faster, and a nanny who knows the child notices when something is different. For you, it means you stop being the project manager of your own childcare.
How do you match us with the right nanny?
You tell us about your everyday life: which hours you need help, the children’s ages, which language you want the nanny to speak and how you like things done at home. Based on that, Aleksandra suggests a nanny who suits you. You then get a free first meeting with her, about 30 minutes and usually at your home, where you and the children get to know her before you decide. If it does not feel right, we suggest someone else.
What services do you offer?
Ongoing childcare week by week, childcare when you need it, pick-up and drop-off at preschool and school, full time and part time, and childcare at weddings, events, conferences, in hotels and while travelling.
How do we get started?
You get in touch on 073-720 44 32 or info@happynanny.se and tell us which hours you need. We then book a free meeting where you meet your nanny and ask all your questions. You decide only after the meeting.
Peace of mind
What do you check before a nanny is placed with a family?
Four things, every time. A two-step interview, first by phone or video and then in person with Aleksandra. A current extract from the Swedish criminal records register, ideally from the same day as the interview. Paediatric CPR, with a certificate or a run-through with check questions and a refresher. And two or three references from real employers, ideally involving children, which Aleksandra calls herself.
Are the nannies insured?
Yes. Happy Nanny has liability insurance with Trygg-Hansa that covers the nanny while she works in your home.
What ages do you take?
Children from 0 to 12 years. The limit follows the RUT deduction. We have nannies with experience of infants, so tell us when you get in touch if it is a baby.
What happens if the nanny is ill?
If she is ill, the nanny lets both us at Happy Nanny and you as the family know as soon as possible. If you would like a replacement, we do our best to arrange another nanny. If no replacement is available, or if you choose not to have one, the session is cancelled and of course you are not charged for it.
How soon can you start?
How soon a nanny can start depends on availability and matching. We always try to find a suitable nanny as quickly as possible, and in some cases we can arrange a start at short notice.
Who are the nannies?
Six people, all employed by us: Aleksandra, the founder, plus Denise, Sanna, Nike, Doaa and Esther. Between us we speak Swedish, English, Bulgarian, Spanish and Arabic. You can read more about each of us on the nannies page.
Price and the RUT deduction
How much does a nanny from Happy Nanny cost?
Childcare costs from 165 SEK per hour after RUT, the Swedish tax deduction for household services, which we take off the invoice directly. Occasional sessions cost 199 SEK per hour after RUT, full time from 165, and in between the price depends on how many hours you book. Specific requirements about the nanny’s age, experience or driving licence can mean a higher price, and if so we tell you beforehand. One or two children cost the same; from the third child add 20 SEK per hour. The Stockholm market sits at 300 to 400 SEK before RUT, so we are below average.
What does a babysitter cost in Stockholm in general?
Professional childcare in Stockholm normally costs 300 to 400 SEK per hour before the RUT deduction, which comes to 150 to 200 SEK after. The largest providers currently quote from 398 SEK before RUT. Prices far below that usually mean employer contributions are not being paid.
Does childcare qualify for the RUT deduction?
Yes. Childcare in the home gives a 50 percent tax reduction on the labour cost, up to 75,000 SEK per person and year. The deduction normally applies up to and including school year seven. Happy Nanny Sweden AB is approved for F-tax and registered as an employer, which is the precondition for the deduction.
How much do we save with the RUT deduction?
Half the labour cost. At 330 SEK per hour you pay 165 SEK after the deduction. Ten hours a week comes to roughly 7,150 SEK a month instead of 14,250. If there are two adults in the household, you each have an allowance of 75,000 SEK a year.
Is it cheaper to employ a nanny privately?
Rarely. If you employ privately, you become the employer and pay employer contributions of 31.42 percent on top of the salary, arrange insurance, withhold tax and file an employer return every month. After the RUT deduction, it usually works out more expensive than using a company.
Does it cost extra per child?
One or two children cost the same; from the third child add 20 SEK per hour. If you have more children than one nanny can reasonably manage, we need to book two nannies, and two hourly rates apply.
Practicalities
Can the nanny collect from preschool or school?
Yes, pick-up and drop-off at preschool or school is part of what we do, as is taking the children to activities. You give the preschool written authorisation and the nanny brings her ID. Because it is the same nanny every time, the staff soon know who is coming.
Which areas do you work in?
We are based in Järfälla and work across the Stockholm area. Send us your address and the hours you need, and we will tell you straight away whether we can take it on. We would rather say no than promise something we cannot keep.
How do we pay?
By invoice. Payment must be electronic for the RUT deduction to apply, so bank transfer or card, never cash. We handle the deduction with Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency, so you pay the net amount.
Can we book a babysitter for just one evening?
Yes. Occasional sessions cost 199 SEK per hour after the RUT deduction. Get in touch in good time and we will see who is free. Children who have not met the nanny before do best with a short meeting first, even if it is just ten minutes when she arrives.
Can the nanny take the children out?
Yes, that is part of the job: the playground, the park, the library, the woods. At the first meeting we go through where you are happy for the children to go, and what you want to know in advance.
Can the nanny cook for the children?
Yes, snacks and a simple dinner for the children are included if you want them. What applies in your home is written into the agreement. Housework that does not involve the children is never included.
Does the nanny help with homework?
Yes, with reading, vocabulary and maths at primary and middle school level. She is not a teacher, but she sits alongside, keeps the focus and makes sure it gets done before you get home.
Can the nanny drive the children?
Yes, if you want her to and if the nanny has a driving licence. At the first meeting we go through the licence, your car insurance and which journeys are involved, and write it into the agreement. Requiring a driving licence can affect the hourly rate.
Do you have nannies with experience of babies?
Yes. Tell us when you get in touch if it is for a baby, and we will match you with someone who has worked with infants before. The most common baby booking is one evening a week when the parents need to sleep or eat in peace.
Can we take the nanny on holiday or to a wedding?
Yes. Childcare in hotels, while travelling and at weddings is something we do, ideally with the nanny the children already know. Talk to us about the arrangements in good time.
