A nanny from Happy Nanny costs from 165 kronor an hour after RUT, the Swedish 50 per cent tax deduction for household services, which is taken off the invoice directly. Occasional bookings cost 199 kronor an hour, full-time from 165 kronor, and in between the hourly price depends on how many hours a week you book. One child and two children cost the same, from the third child there is an extra 20 kronor an hour. No start-up fees, no monthly fees, no lock-in period. Here is the full sum, and how it compares with the alternatives.
Nanny prices are what people search for, and the answer on almost every other website is "call for a quote". We do not like that. The price is the first thing a family wants to know, so here it is, in figures, with worked examples you can map onto your own week. You get the exact hourly price at the free first meeting, before you decide.
The hourly price
| Arrangement | After RUT | Before RUT |
|---|---|---|
| Occasional bookings | 199 kr/hour | 398 kr/hour |
| A few shifts a week | from 170 kr/hour | from 340 kr/hour |
| Full-time, 40 hours a week | from 165 kr/hour | from 330 kr/hour |
| Supplement from the third child | +20 kr/hour | +40 kr/hour |
| Specific requests about the nanny | Quote | Quote |
| Start-up fee, monthly fee, lock-in period | None | None |
Why the price depends on the hours
The nanny's wage is our largest cost, and a nanny who works many hours with the same family costs less per hour to employ than one who steps in for a single evening. That is why a one-off shift is the most expensive and full-time the cheapest, with everything in between on a scale according to how many hours you book. If you want a nanny with particular qualifications, a certain age, long experience or a driving licence, we need to pay her more, and the hourly price goes up. We tell you that beforehand, not on the invoice.
Per month
| Arrangement | Hours per month | After RUT |
|---|---|---|
| One evening a week, 4 hours | 17 | 3,383 kr |
| Two afternoons a week, 4 hours | 35 | from 5,950 kr |
| Three afternoons a week, 4 hours | 52 | from 8,840 kr |
| Every weekday, 4 hours | 87 | from 14,790 kr |
| Full-time, 40 hours a week | 173 | from 28,545 kr |
RUT, the thing that halves it
The RUT deduction gives 50 per cent off the labour cost of childcare in the home, up to 75,000 kronor per person per year, for children up to and including the age of 12. Two parents therefore have 150,000 kronor of deduction room, which is enough for over 800 hours of nanny a year. The deduction requires that you pay electronically and that the company is approved for F-skatt (Swedish corporate tax registration). We handle the application to Skatteverket (the Swedish Tax Agency), you only see the lower price on the invoice. The full rules are in RUT deduction for nannies and babysitters.
Compared with the alternatives
| Alternative | Cost per hour to you | What you get | What you do yourself |
|---|---|---|---|
| Happy Nanny | From 165 kr after RUT | An employed nanny, the same every time, interviewed, vetted and insured | Nothing |
| Privately employed nanny | Around 200 kr at a wage of 150 kr, without RUT unless you arrange it | The person you found yourself | Employer contributions, insurance, wages, holiday, sick pay, tax |
| Matching service | Varies, often a fee plus an hourly rate | A name and a number | Everything after the introduction |
| Au pair | Fixed monthly allowance plus board and lodging | A person living in your home, max 25 hours a week | Room, food, insurance, Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency), responsibility |
| Nanny paid cash in hand | Cheaper per hour | No insurance, no responsibility, no RUT | Risk |
What decides whether it is worth it
The price is simple. The question is what the hours give you. For most of our families the answer is: two afternoons a week where nobody has to leave a meeting at four, where the child is collected by someone they know and where the evening starts calmly. That is from 5,950 kronor a month. Compare that with what a parent loses by cutting their hours, or with what a stressful daily life costs in other ways, and the sum looks different.
How we do it with our families
We always state the price before we say anything else. At the first meeting we go through how many hours you need and whether you have any specific requests, and work out an hourly price. That is the price that appears on the invoice, every month, without extras you have not heard of.

Frequently asked questions
What does a nanny cost per hour?
With Happy Nanny, from 165 kronor an hour after the RUT deduction. Occasional bookings cost 199 kronor an hour, full-time at 40 hours a week from 165 kronor, and in between the hourly price depends on how many hours you book. Before RUT the price is double.
What does a nanny cost per month?
Two afternoons a week, four hours each time, comes to roughly 35 hours a month: from 5,950 kronor after RUT. Three afternoons comes to roughly 52 hours: from 8,840 kronor. Full-time from around 28,500 kronor a month after RUT.
What affects the price?
The number of hours above all: more hours means a lower hourly price. The number of children only matters from the third child, when 20 kronor an hour per child is added. Specific requests about the nanny's age, experience or driving licence mean a higher wage for the nanny and therefore a higher hourly price.
Is it cheaper to employ someone yourself?
Rarely. A privately employed nanny on a wage of 150 kronor an hour costs you around 200 kronor an hour with employer contributions, plus insurance, holiday pay and administration. And you become an employer with everything that entails.
