Work as a nanny with Happy Nanny

We are looking for nannies in the Stockholm area who want to work regularly with the same family. You are employed by us, not self-employed, and Aleksandra interviews every nanny in person. Most often it is afternoons between 2 and 6 pm, a few days a week.

Happy Nanny is a small childcare company in Järfälla. We are small on purpose: families get the same nanny every time, which means we are careful about whom we employ. If you are after a side job hopping between unfamiliar homes, we are the wrong employer. If you are after a family to get to know, we are probably the right one.

What the job involves

A typical session starts at the preschool or school and ends when the parents get home.

  1. Collect the children, with written authorisation from the parents
  2. A snack and some quiet time after the day
  3. Play, crafts or time outdoors
  4. Lifts to practice or activities when needed
  5. Light homework help during the session
  6. Prepare dinner for the children if the family wishes
  7. Tidy up after the children and hand over

What is included is decided per family and written into the agreement. You are employed for the children’s sake: housework that does not involve the children is never part of the job.

Who we are looking for

  • Experience with children. Younger siblings, previous babysitting, preschool work, coaching a sports team: it all counts.
  • References we are allowed to contact.
  • Reliability. If you turn up twenty minutes late to a parent who has a meeting to get to, you have not just been late. You have ruined her day.
  • A genuine interest in children. It is the one thing we cannot teach.
  • Languages are a plus. English, Bulgarian, Spanish, Arabic or any other language you speak fluently.

How recruitment works

We are thorough, because families trust that we have been. Here is the way in, in the order it happens.

  1. Phone or video first. A short conversation with Aleksandra, where we both get a feel for whether this is right.
  2. Interview in person. Usually over a coffee in Stockholm. If you live far away, it can be done online.
  3. Criminal records extract. Current, ideally ordered so that it arrives on the day of the interview. You order it yourself from the Swedish police (Polisen), and it is free.
  4. Paediatric CPR. If you have a certificate, send it in. If not, we go through a few check questions, and everyone gets a refresher video to watch before the first session.
  5. Two or three references. Ideally from jobs involving children, otherwise from your most recent job. Real employers, not family. Aleksandra calls them herself.
  6. Matching and the first session. You meet the family at their home before anything is booked, and Aleksandra follows up after the first session.

During working hours you are covered by our liability insurance with Trygg-Hansa.

What we offer

  • Employment with salary, employer contributions and holiday pay. No invoicing, no F-tax registration, no paperwork.
  • The same family every time, so that you build a real relationship with the children.
  • A schedule that fits around studies. We match to your hours, not the other way round.
  • Someone to call. Aleksandra answers herself, including when something gets complicated at the family’s home.

How to apply

  1. Send an email to info@happynanny.se. Tell us who you are, what experience you have with children, which hours you can work, which area you live in and which languages you speak.
  2. We talk on the phone. A short call to see whether it is worth taking further.
  3. Interview with Aleksandra. A meeting in person, not a form.
  4. References. We contact the people you have named.
  5. Matching. You meet the family before either of you decides.

We employ few people, and we take our time. Not to make things difficult, but because a family who leaves their child with you has the right to know that we have been thorough.

Questions from applicants

What do you require of a nanny?

We only employ nannies who already have experience with children, can give references, and whom Aleksandra has interviewed herself. Just as important is that you genuinely enjoy being with children. It cannot be faked, and the children are the first to notice.

How much can I work?

It varies with the families’ needs. Most often it is afternoons between 2 and 6 pm a few days a week. We match to your schedule, so tell us which hours actually work for you: better a few sessions that hold than many that fall through.

Will I be employed or self-employed?

Employed. We are the employer and pay salary, employer contributions and holiday pay. You do not need to invoice, register for F-tax or handle any paperwork.

Do I need to speak several languages?

No, but it is a clear advantage. Many families are looking for a nanny who speaks English or another language consistently with their child. If you speak a second or third language fluently, say so in your application.

Do I get the same family every time?

Yes, that is our whole model. You are matched with one family and stay with them. It gives you a better relationship with the children than hopping between jobs, and it is the reason families choose us.
